Sawako's first obstacle is not a dramatic romantic rival but the distance between who she is and what classmates assume about her. Kazehaya matters because he addresses her directly and treats her answers as meaningful. The romance therefore develops alongside Sawako's ability to participate in ordinary conversations without accepting other people's false version of her.

Friendship changes the social stakes

Ayane and Chizuru give Sawako relationships that do not depend on her feelings for Kazehaya. Rumours, seating arrangements, school events and small misunderstandings become important because each one tests whether the group will speak honestly or let an assumption harden into fact. That emphasis makes the series both romance and slice of life rather than a chain of confession scenes.

Season scope and content guidance

Production I.G records the first season from 6 October 2009 to 30 March 2010 and identifies its format as 25 episodes of approximately 30 minutes. The studio separately archives a second season and a 2024 third season, so this page does not combine every continuation into the first season's episode count.
