My Hero Academia: premise and starting point

My Hero Academia begins in a society where superhuman Quirks have been absorbed into education, celebrity and public safety. Izuku's lack of a Quirk excludes him from the heroic future he studies until All Might chooses him to inherit One For All.

U.A. High provides training, friendships and rivalries, but the story steadily questions the system surrounding the school. Public expectations, family pressure and the treatment of people with dangerous abilities complicate the simple division between heroes and villains.

What makes My Hero Academia distinct

Izuku's habit of analysing other people remains important after he gains power. The series treats observation, rescue priorities and teamwork as heroic skills rather than using strength as the only measure of progress.

The large student ensemble lets heroism take several forms. Bakugo, Todoroki and their classmates confront different gaps between talent and maturity, while professional heroes reveal the labour and compromises behind public symbols.

Adaptation and viewing guidance

The television anime adapts Kohei Horikoshi's manga across eight seasons. The theatrical films are related productions but should be checked separately instead of being inserted automatically between numbered episodes.
