Profile overview
Hexapodus matters because the victim has no personal connection to Ichigo. Fishbone D threatened his sisters; this Hollow threatens a stranger. Rukia uses that difference to challenge a version of heroism limited to people already within reach of Ichigo's private loyalties.
The fight is intentionally simple. Hexapodus has speed, claws and enough awareness to attempt a surprise attack, but no named technique that would distract from the moral decision. Once Ichigo chooses to act, the Hollow's role is to show that his borrowed power now carries recurring responsibility.
Hexapodus is an insect-like Hollow that pursues the Plus of a young boy through Yumisawa Children's Park. Rukia Kuchiki brings the newly empowered Ichigo Kurosaki into the emergency, but he initially resists being ordered to protect every unknown soul simply because he has received Soul Reaper power. The child in immediate danger makes the argument practical. Ichigo cuts off one of Hexapodus's forelegs, then destroys the Hollow when it tries to attack from behind. The brief encounter becomes his first duty after Fishbone D rather than a battle fought only for his own family.
