Profile overview
Pernida begins as withheld identity: a cloak, a few eyes and a distorted voice. Once revealed, development becomes frighteningly literal. Language, movement and combat technique grow during the fight, compressing learning that would take another character years into moments of direct biological adaptation.
The Compulsory makes contact into forced connection. Information crosses the same nerves that twist an opponent's body, so learning and domination become inseparable. Pernida does not study from a safe distance; it incorporates the structure of resistance and returns an evolved answer.
Pernida Parnkgjas is the Sternritter assigned the Schrift C, The Compulsory, and a member of Yhwach's Schutzstaffel. Initially concealed beneath a hooded cloak, Pernida is revealed as the Soul King's severed left arm, an entity associated with progress that evolves by extending nerves into opponents and absorbing information from what those nerves touch.
Personality and motivation
- Initially inarticulate
- Proud
- Adaptive
- Increasingly expressive through combat
Abilities, powers and limitations
Abilities
- Using The Compulsory to send nerves into a target and forcibly twist or restructure its body
- Absorbing information through connected nerves and rapidly evolving new speech, movement and combat responses
- Splitting severed fingers into additional autonomous bodies that can continue attacking and adapting
- Regenerating from extreme damage and reproducing techniques learned from connected opponents
Limits
- The Compulsory depends on nerve pathways reaching a target, allowing prepared fighters to observe, interrupt or redirect those connections.
- Rapid evolution also means Pernida can absorb biological properties whose consequences it has not fully controlled.
- Specialised drugs and deliberately engineered cells can exploit the same adaptive processes that make ordinary attacks ineffective.
Aliases
The Compulsory, The Soul King's Left Arm
Role
Sternritter C and evolving member of Yhwach's Royal Guard
Important relationships
- Yhwach incorporates Pernida into the Schutzstaffel despite its origin as part of the Soul King, turning a piece of the old order against its defenders.
- Mayuri Kurotsuchi treats Pernida as both mortal danger and unprecedented research material, repeatedly redesigning his response as it evolves.
- Nemu Kurotsuchi rejects passive obedience during the battle, placing her own growth against Pernida's involuntary extraction of information.
Defining moments
- Twisting Kenpachi's arm before a conventional sword strike can land establishes why physical aggression is dangerous at close range.
- Emerging from the cloak as a giant hand transforms a mysterious elite guard into a direct piece of Soul King history.
- Learning from Mayuri's altered Bankai and continuing to divide forces him to answer adaptation with increasingly specialised science.
Symbolism and visual design
A left hand represents progress through grasping, movement and intervention, matching the role identified by the official character guide.
Exposed nerves make connection visible while turning the body's communication system into a tool of coercion.
The hood delays recognition because Pernida's true shape changes how the audience understands both the Soul King and the Schutzstaffel.
Manga-versus-anime differences
Pernida appears only in the final manga arc. The manga's reveal depends on page turns and close anatomical imagery, while the official character guide now identifies Pernida directly as the Soul King's left arm.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War expands Pernida's sound, evolving speech and unsettling movement during the Mayuri battle. Exact late-battle consequences and current status remain spoiler-marked coverage. Bin Shimada voices Pernida in Japanese.
