Ikumi enters when Ichigo is trying to build an ordinary life after losing the identity that organized his adolescence. She offers work that is physical, local and mundane. Her demands can be comic, but employment gives Ichigo somewhere to be useful without a sword and places an adult outside his family in a position to notice when he is unraveling.
The shop briefly becomes a refuge because Ikumi does not require a supernatural explanation before offering safety. That trust matters when Ichigo no longer believes his own social world. Tsukishima's arrival is therefore more than another ambush: it demonstrates that Book of the End can contaminate a relationship formed after Ichigo's earlier battles.
Ikumi Unagiya owns the Unagiya Shop, an odd-job business in Karakura Town, and employs Ichigo Kurosaki after he loses his Soul Reaper powers. She is forceful enough to collect her absent employee in person, but her aggression is paired with practical concern and a visibly gentle relationship with her young son, Kaoru.
