Manga versus anime
The manga explains the Jibakurei's greed, shows Kanonji accelerating Hollowfication and uses the fight to teach Ichigo how Chains of Fate and attachment operate.
The anime preserves the transformation and hospital battle while stretching the television-show spectacle and simplifying some visual details of the Hollow mask. It does not change the essential cause: Kanonji's uninformed intervention speeds up an existing spiritual decline. Susumu Chiba voices the spirit and Demi-Hollow in Japanese.
