The manga introduces Jidanbō during the rescue party's first attempt to enter the Seireitei and emphasizes the sequence from axe duel to honorable surrender, Gin's intervention and Orihime's healing.
The television anime preserves those defining events while expanding the scale and comic rhythm of the giant's movements. Takashi Nagasako voices Jidanbō in Japanese. Later anime appearances may add connective material, but they do not give him a named Zanpakutō release.
