Profile overview
The twins divide identity into two kinds of knowledge. Loyd reproduces what a person can do, making ability appear transferable. Royd reproduces what a person knows and how that person thinks, making behavior itself a disguise. Together they show that appearance is only the surface of a much more invasive imitation.
Neither copy becomes the original. Kenpachi exceeds the version of himself Loyd captured, while Yamamoto destroys Royd despite believing him to be Yhwach. The Yourself creates convincing equivalence at one moment in time, but cannot reproduce growth, history or the choices that follow.
Loyd Loyd and Royd Loyd are identical twin Stern Ritter who share the letter Y and the title The Yourself. Loyd copies Kenpachi Zaraki's appearance and combat power during the first invasion, while Royd assumes Yhwach's appearance, memories and personality to occupy Genryusai Yamamoto. Their separate assignments turn resemblance into a strategic weapon: one imitates strength, while the other sustains a deception large enough to redirect the Head Captain.

The manga initially withholds Royd's identity so that Yamamoto and the reader share the deception. Later explanation distinguishes Loyd's power-and-skill copying from Royd's memory-and-personality copying, which is why one authoritative twin profile is clearer than two thin repetitions.
Thousand-Year Blood War strengthens the visual continuity between the false and real Yhwach and expands the scale of Zanka no Tachi. Yusuke Kobayashi voices both twins in Japanese, reinforcing their shared origin while the story assigns them different functions.
