Adaptation notes
Manga versus anime
The manga introduces Rikichi before the Soul Society rescue and gives him his defining role after Renji's defeat by Byakuya, when he frees Hanatarō and urges Renji to continue.
The television anime keeps that rescue intact and later uses Rikichi in anime-original errands and background scenes. Those additions should not be confused with a revealed manga Zanpakutō ability. Masataka Nakai is his principal Japanese voice actor.
