Manga versus anime
Rumiko Takahashi's manga establishes Kaede as Kikyo's sister, village priestess and guide to the Jewel's history. The 2000 anime expands village incidents and recovery scenes around her home.
Inuyasha: The Final Act retains Kaede as a source of continuity while compressing the concluding manga material. Yashahime returns to the village in a later era, so subsequent status belongs in spoiler-marked coverage. Hisako Kyoda voices Kaede in Japanese.
