Profile overview
Sentarō's shouting is easiest to understand as anxious devotion. Ukitake's health can change without warning, and a junior officer cannot solve the illness or carry the captain's moral authority for him. Sentarō therefore concentrates on what he can control: arriving quickly, carrying out instructions and proving that no one is more attentive.
His shared rank with Kiyone is also more functional than their rivalry suggests. Squad 13 has two officers close enough to support its captain, challenge each other's assumptions and keep duties moving during an emergency. The comedy comes from excess, but the underlying arrangement is one of mutual coverage.
Sentarō Kotsubaki serves as a joint 3rd Seat of Squad 13 alongside Kiyone Kotetsu. The two officers attend the chronically ill Captain Jūshirō Ukitake, carry messages and compete loudly over which of them understands his needs best. Their quarrels make the assignment look chaotic, yet Sentarō follows Ukitake into the confrontation over Rukia Kuchiki's execution and remains loyal when the captain rejects Central 46's order.
